mister ebby :: piano chamber pop
Mister Ebby is a piano playing songwriter from Galway. His debut album “Wires” will be released on 30th November at a launch night upstairs in the Róisín Dubh. The album sees his songs fleshed out with double bass, drums, and cello, in a twist on the piano jazz trio setup.
He performed to a full house at the Festival Club as part of the Cork Jazz Festival this year.
The album’s crowd-funding project on Fundit was the first music project using that service to cross the line successfully, and had support from funders as far flung as Alaska and Sydney.
The record’s use of layering of multi-part harmonies and weaving vocal counter-melodies show the influence of his classical music studies, after which he moved onto playing session piano for rock bands, folk songwriters, and jazz groups. These diverse experiences inform his own musical style, which draws comparisons with Tori Amos, Antony & The Johnsons, and Ben Folds.
The album features musical contributions from Aonghus Mac Amhlaigh (Henrietta Game) on cello, Karl Hand (The Young Folk) on drums, George Guilfoyle (The Crayon Set) on double bass. Galway’s own Méadhbh Sullivan adds her sublime vocals to the mix, along with prizewinning storyteller Mrs Nellie Murphy who provides a spoken word performance on one of the tracks.
