About

mister ebby :: piano indie pop.

Drawing on folk, classical, indie-pop and jazz, mister ebby, a piano-playing songwriter, will enthral with his story-driven style.

“I blame my sister – she was playing piano one day when I was 4, and I got hooked. People don’t realise that piano is more addictive than any drug, and once you fall for it, there’s no way out,” says mister ebby when asked when he started to learn to play.

He spent a number of years playing piano for other people’s music, but now he’s breaking out on his own with his original, quirky style of songwriting. At times you can hear the classical influence of his piano training, other times his music is closer to artists like Tori Amos or Patrick Wolf, but stylistically he is sometimes hard to pin down.

“The songs mostly aren’t about me or my life at all. Usually they’re stories, or invented characters, or were inspired by novels or other works of art. Of course, there are some deeply personal songs in there too, but I like to leave people guessing as to which is which.”

I used to have a blog at the address ebbybrett.co.uk ["Something Interesting Happens Every Day"] which is no longer active. That blog is archived on my Livejournal, which also hosts a mirror of this site, just in case of database disasters :)

Thanks for looking around and checking it all out. You can also follow me on twitter, add me on myspace or facebook if you like.
